[...] My chance was when I moved to the MacBook Pro and started making heavy use of Vienna, which I really really like at the moment, and which has made my life easier back again. I mentioned I had the chance, because I wanted to migrate the stuff from Omea over to the Mac, but I didn’t do it fast enough and now I am facing the consequences. Never again, I tell you. So much so, that was the last drop that filled the glass for my final move away from Windows. Right after that happened I haven’t looked back! I haven’t even turned on any longer the Windows box. Perhaps wanted to save myself the grief of knowing the data is there, but cannot access it. Perhaps it was just the right move and start with a clean slate for 2008. No regrets. Who knows. [...]

[...] Thus far the experience has been superior. I haven’t had a single error message from the upgrade (Did a complete clean install, in case you are wondering), and so far from what I have been trying out everything seems to be running pretty smooth. In fact, the machine seems to be running faster, less prone to hiccups and all of the different applications that I am currently using are all working just fine, except for one of them that I am hoping will be working all right again pretty soon. That is the case for Vienna, my default feed reader for the Mac, where some of the toolbar menu options cannot be invoked no matter how many times you click! [...]

[...] I know that people may have different issues with a couple of the components that may need some work, like the integrated feed reader or the blog editor and I am sure, while those capabilities get to be improved as time goes by, I will still be making use of them in between my default options at the moment: Vienna and Qumana. So I can surely wait till they are finally done. But still the overall experience from a Mac is just so much more compelling than everything else that I may have been exposed to in the past, including Flock itself in Windows. [...]

For the Windows platform, I had written up the reasons that I switched to Feedreader after using RSS Bandit for 6 months.
Six months earlier, when I was revisiting my RSS reader choices, RSS Owl was one of the final contenders. Of all of the choices, RSS Owl is cross-platform, so anyone who switches between Mac, Windows and Linux platforms may appreciate a reader that works on all of them. I see that they're working on version 2 and are at milestone 6, which suggests that they'll soon have an updated version that may be worth reviewing.

I'd encourage you to look again at Google Reader. You can effectively do the same thing AND share them through the Google shared items feature AND you can share on Facebook with the FB Google Shared Items app which then means you can see what your friends are sharing and their friends as well. I think something like 5K people are on that app.
