Jardin Canario – Nature At Its Best – Part Deux

(Migrated weblog post from LSR)

Last week I mentioned how I ended up going to one of the most beautiful places in Gran Canaria that is certainly a worth while visit for anybody who loves nature at its best: the Jardin Canario. I mentioned how I took a whole bunch of stunning pictures and I thought I would give you folks another update to mention that this week I am sharing some more of those pictures in my Flickr account.

There are some really nice shots taken from the huge amount of cacti available in one of the gardens and also some really nice waterfalls, one of them in memoriam of the founder of Jardin Canario: Eric Sventius. And as I mentioned earlier on I am already making plans to go over there during the winter (rainy) season so that I can get to see nature in all its greatness and share with you what is like. But for the time being here you have got three of my favourite pictures taken from last week’s trip to the botanic garden of Jardin Canario:

Wavigo – Communication the Way It Should Be

(Migrated weblog post from LSR)

Goodness ! It looks like the competition just keeps coming up with some really good tools as we go along and so far there doesn’t seem to be a limit nor any indication as to when it is going to stop. The latest tool that will be rocking the place as far as real-time collaboration is going to be Wavigo. This relatively new tool will actually allow you to do a whole bunch of really cool things. To start with it would allow you to keep track with all your different buddies on most of the different IM protocols available out there: MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ, AOL, pretty much like Trillian does already, although it is still missing the Jabber, the I.R.C. or the Sametime plugins. However, the key advantage from Wavigo in this particular case is the interface with Skype which means you can talk to your Skype buddies through Wavigo. For the first time there is a connection between traditional IM clients and VoIP clients. Really nice !

But that is not all of what Wavigo offers you. Apart from the IM and VoIP components it has got a whole bunch of other different options that will make your IM experience a lot more enjoyable. And if not take a look for yourself:

  • With this application you would be able to subscribe to RSS Newsfeeds (Indeed ! Way cool !).
  • Send SMS messages.
  • Set up conference calls between 2 to 4 parties.
  • Use the same functions as with Skype, so, that is, VoIP to dial out and to receive calls.
  • Also it has got a media player to play videos.
  • It has got as well a Voicemail service and the possibility of getting Quotes and Weather reports.
  • And, finally, it has got a search engine for different engines and another tab (Travel) that would allow you search for flight tickets from various International Airports (Way too good to be true, but it actually works !).

These and many other features are already available from this Beta product, Wavigo, and although some of them may be a bit too shaky at the moment this is certainly one of those tools that I will be watching very closely to see how it evolves. For the time being I have already got installed in my machine and it surely is a nice break from Trillian Pro and, of course, freeware. So if you are looking for something different and a whole new IM experience Wavigo is worth while a try. You may never come back to anything else. We shall see. So far I am hanging in there.

Gran Canaria Seen by Google Earth

    (Migrated weblog post from LSR)

If you have been reading elsua lately you probably know by now that I have already weblogged about Google Earth and how impressive Google’s new gadget seems to be. Well, to be honest I did not expect that it would be so impressive. And if not take a look at this. A good friend, and colleague, of mine who knows I live in the South of Gran Canaria sent to me the following two snapshots he took from within Google Earth when he was just checking out the kind of place I live in.

The first one is the a snapshot from the South of the island from where you can see the Dunes of Maspalomas and the different towns that are very close to it. The second snapshot is even more stunning because it gives you a 3D overview of the island where you can see the combination of the mountains and the beach and the main reason why Gran Canaria is called the mini-continent.

As I go along in time I will be taking some more Google Earth pictures not only from the island but also from the different places I may get to visit, rather on holidays or while travelling for work. For the time if you want to take an ever more enlarged view of the pictures you can download them from here and from here.. I tell you if you really want to impress other people about the kind of place you live in Google Earth would be a perfect start. So go for it !
